Why I regret my support for Tinubu in 2023 – Nollywood actress
Nollywood actress Bukky Raji, known as Aminatu Papapa, has issued a public apology to Nigerians for her endorsement of President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, explaining that her decision was motivated by business interests and a misjudgment of trust. In a recently trending interview with Oyinmomo TV on YouTube, the actress expressed her deep regret for supporting the Tinubu campaign and asked for forgiveness from Nigerians, particularly those facing difficulties.
She stated, “What I regret most in my life is that they claimed they wanted to bring back hope.
“I take this opportunity to ask Nigerians, whom I care for, both those who love me and those who do not, to forgive me.”

She added, “The primary thing I regret is… I was not informed, and I discovered this later on.
“Don’t be upset, your livelihood will not be difficult.
“There is a saying that anyone you haven’t seen in a long time should be observed carefully before making any judgments about them.
“That is where I went wrong.”
To clarify her motivations, the actress indicated that her apology stemmed from her personal reflections rather than any social media backlash.
She mentioned that her rice business, which suffered after the Buhari administration closed the Southern borders in 2019, influenced her support for Tinubu’s agenda, considering he was from her region and might reopen those borders.
“It’s not due to the criticism I faced on my page; it’s because I took time to think… ‘Oh God, I’ve made a mistake.’
“It was the campaign I conducted for Tinubu that causes me pain. The people are starving.
“I assumed that when Tinubu came into office, he would reopen the borders in our area since they were opened in the North during Buhari’s administration,” she revealed.
“I, too, experienced the hardship because it’s related to my business.
“I started this business with just 20 bags of rice and eventually began offloading trailers full of rice.
“Now, tell me, didn’t I also partake in the suffering? I thought if he (Tinubu) won, conditions would improve… but we are all suffering, whether we campaigned or not.
“Don’t be angry; I’ve wronged you. That is my life’s regret, not because of the backlash I received. If you come for me, I will respond in kind,” she remarked.
Raji also recounted how her husband’s support was instrumental in helping her recover during a previous downturn in her business.
The actress had earlier clashed online with fellow actress Adunni Ade shortly after the 2023 presidential election, following Adunni's criticism of unidentified celebrities for endorsing political candidates.
Adunni had alleged that some celebrities wasted two months campaigning for a meager payment of “N90,000.”
In reply, Raji had responded in a video, asserting that their support was based on loyalty, not financial gain.
“Adunni Ade, or whatever name you go by? Are you out of your mind?
“You claimed some people worked for 40 days and were only compensated with a trifling amount. What’s your stance on that?”
