Tinubu to receive Buhari’s body in Katsina Tuesday
President Bola Tinubu is set to welcome the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina on Tuesday, ahead of his final burial in Daura, Katsina State.Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this announcement on Monday at a press briefing in Abuja.
Idris stated that the body of the former president, who passed away on Sunday in a London hospital, is scheduled to arrive in Nigeria by noon on Tuesday.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will be present to receive the remains of the former President in Katsina."
“Once the body arrives in Katsina, a brief military ceremony will occur at the airport before it is transported to Daura.
“The Jana’iza (funeral prayer) will follow shortly after, with interment taking place at the late President’s home,” Idris explained.
He mentioned that Vice President Kashim Shettima is presently in London, leading a high-level delegation from the Federal Government to complete the necessary documentation and logistical arrangements for repatriating the former president’s remains.
The minister also stated that, as part of a national period of mourning, Tinubu has instructed that condolence registers be made available across all Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as well as at Nigerian embassies and missions worldwide.
Additionally, a register will be placed at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Idris noted that condolences have been pouring in from world leaders.
“The messages of condolence from Heads of State and Governments around the world reflect the international recognition and legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari,” he remarked.
To ensure what he called a “respectful and well-organized event,” Idris pointed out that the President has established an Inter-Ministerial Committee chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
This committee will coordinate efforts with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.
The minister also announced that 25 members of the Federal Executive Council have been instructed to proceed to the event.
