Police hunt killers of Katsina Miyetti Allah leader

The Katsina State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the killers of Surajo Ahmadu, the state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, who was attacked and killed in Mai Rana village, Kusada Local Government Area, on Saturday.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the command's spokesman, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspected bandits stormed Surajo's home, shot him, and kidnapped his wife and daughter.

The statement read, "On January 4, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., suspected armed bandits invaded the residence of Miyetti Allah Chairman Surajo Ahmadu in Mai Rana village, Kusada LGA. They shot him and abducted his wife and daughter.

"Police officers, led by DPO Kusada, responded quickly to the scene." The victim was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty."

Sadiq went on to say that the operatives tracked the assailants to Kofa village, where they engaged in a gun battle. "A gunfight ensued, forcing the bandits to flee due to our operatives' superior firepower." Unfortunately, the fleeing bandits shot and killed two people," the statement said.

He assured that efforts to apprehend the suspects were ongoing, and promised updates as the investigation progressed.

Earlier reports indicated that Surajo and three others were killed during the attack, raising new concerns about regional insecurity.
