Again, Sergio Ramos quits Sevilla

Sergio Ramos, a veteran Spanish defender, has informed his hometown club Sevilla that his second spell with them would finish after only one season, the La Liga club said on Monday.

Ramos etched his name into football history over the course of a 20-year career, winning the 2010 World Cup, two European championships, and four Champions League crowns with Real Madrid before returning to help struggling Sevilla survive a difficult season.

Ramos, 38, made 37 appearances for Sevilla as the club limped to 14th in La Liga, going through three coaches along the way.

Ramos left Sevilla at the age of 19 for Real Madrid in 2005, where he spent 15 years. He then played two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain.

The outstanding defender has yet to reveal his destination for the following season.

The record seven-time Europa League winners said Ramos would say fans farewell on Tuesday after informing them on Monday that his fantasy return to the club that had taken him up from the youth ranks had ended.

"Sergio Ramos has informed Sevilla FC that he will not stay next season," the club said in a statement.


"The club wishes to thank Sergio for the commitment, leadership and dedication that he has demonstrated this season, and wishes him the best for future."

Sevilla's captain and record appearance maker, Jesus Navas, 38, quit the club two weeks ago after 17 seasons.
