Remain law-abiding, shun violence, Ondo monarch urges Igboho, supporters

Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin, Ogunoye III, has urged activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, along with his supporters, to adhere to the law in light of current difficulties.

The king provided this advice on Wednesday during a visit from Igboho and his supporters at his palace in Owo, Ondo State.

In a Facebook update observed by The PUNCH, Oba Gbadegesin praised Igboho as “a symbol of hope for his generation and those to come,” commending his determination and leadership. He emphasized that “he should stay resilient in the face of challenges.”

The Olowo reassured Igboho and his followers of ongoing backing and underscored the significance of collaboration among South-West communities, pointing out that sustainable progress can only flourish in a stable and peaceful setting.

Recalling past difficulties, Igboho expressed gratitude for the support of South-West traditional rulers during his hardships, particularly following the raid on his home in Soka, Ibadan, by the Department of State Security (DSS) on July 1, 2021, which reportedly resulted in two fatalities and the detention of 13 of his aides.

“When our people faced relentless assaults from criminals, it was the support and wise guidance from the king that enabled us to remain resolute and endure the difficulties,” Igboho stated.

He also recognized the assistance he received during earlier conflicts against repeated attacks by herders, which allegedly led to killings, rapes, and serious injuries among farmers in recent times.
