GTBank to charge customers ₦6 for SMS alert from May 1

Guarantee Trust Bank has increased the SMS transaction alert price from ₦4 to ₦6 per message. The new rate will be effective on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

On Wednesday, the bank warned clients that the SMS transaction alert price would increase from ₦4 to ₦6 per message starting Thursday, May 1, 2025.

GTBank attributed the change to higher charges from telecoms service providers. "This adjustment is due to a recent increase in telecom rates as communicated by the telecommunication service providers," according to the notice.

The bank also emphasised the importance of SMS notifications in preserving account security and transparency, stating that they allow consumers to watch their account activity and spot potential fraud.

"Kindly note that transaction alerts are important and help you keep track and stay in control of activities on your account," according to GTBank.

Customers who prefer not to receive SMS alerts can opt out by adjusting their notification choices. According to the bank, this can be accomplished by completing a transaction alert form on its website and submitting it to gtbankmailsupport@gtbank.com.

GTBank invited consumers who had additional queries to contact its customer service channels for assistance.
