The garden egg is another medicinal plant with huge potential that Nigeria is sitting on

Ayo Akinfe

(1) Unfortunately we do not even have any records of how much we produce but it is almost certain we are are world’s number one garden egg producer

(2) This is another plant that needs to be processed and sold to the global pharmaceutical industry

(3) Do you know that the garden egg regulates the blood sugar in the body and also improves blood circulation?

(4) Also, the garden egg is a natural source of vitamin B such as thiamine, niacin, B6 and pantothenic acid

(5) One reason why I believe it will be a big hit with the pharmaceutical industry is because it helps in controlling cholesterol

(6) Furthermore, the garden egg is beneficial for constipation due to its high fibre content

(7) One other rare feature the garden egg has is that it has bone strengthening mineral

(8) Do you know the garden egg has antioxidants that help in protecting the body from health risks such as ageing, inflammations and neurological diseases

(9) Also, for those of you that have ballooned during the lockdown, the egg helps in weight management due to its low calories content and increases bowel movement

(10) In this post-coronavirus era when everyone is trying to lose weight, Nigeria should be championing a plethora of weight-losing medicinal plants as she seeks scarce foreign exchange. Here is one we are sitting on but alas doing nothing with it
