Rudi Garcia Agrees with Osimhen on Napoli's Attack Concerns
Napoli's manager, Rudi Garcia, has supported Victor Osimhen's viewpoint that the team's offensive performance needed improvement during their recent league match.
Garcia began his tenure as Napoli's manager impressively, guiding the team to a 3-1 victory over Frosinone in the opening Serie A match of the 2023-2024 season. In the subsequent home game against Sassuolo, Napoli secured a 2-0 win under Garcia's guidance, marking his debut at the helm after taking over from Scudetto-winning coach Luciano Spalletti.
During the Sassuolo match, midfielder Kvicha Kvaratskhelia registered his first assist of the season for a goal by Giovanni Di Lorenzo, while Napoli's star player, Victor Osimhen, also found the net from a penalty kick. However, Napoli missed the chance for a 3-0 victory as Osimhen decided to let Giacomo Raspadori take a penalty kick, which Raspadori unfortunately missed.
Despite Osimhen scoring his 100th club career goal and Napoli securing a clean sheet victory, the 24-year-old Nigerian forward expressed frustration over missed scoring opportunities. Following the match's conclusion, Osimhen was captured on camera engaging in a heated discussion with his teammates about the missed chances. Osimhen had previously played a pivotal role in Napoli's Scudetto victory in the previous season, contributing 26 goals and five assists in 32 games.
“He (Osimhen) is absolutely right!” Garcia told DAZN.
“We won and picked up six points; we practically didn’t run any risks, that is all positive, but we could also have improved in attack. I think not even 20 per cent of our shots were on target today, so there’s no miracle cure here; if you don’t get it on target, you don’t score goals.”
So far in the 2023-2024 season, Victor Osimhen has scored three goals in two league games. He is expected to be in action on Saturday, September 2, when Lazio visit Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
