Nigerian Striker Victor Boniface a Challenge for Bundesliga Defenders
Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, has expressed how challenging Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has been for defenders in the German Bundesliga.
This summer, Victor Boniface made a €20 million move from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to join Bayer Leverkusen. Since his arrival at the club, he has made an impressive start to his career, scoring three goals and providing one assist in just three matches.
In a recent Rhine derby against Borussia Monchengladbach, the 22-year-old showcased his prowess by netting two goals, contributing to Bayer Leverkusen's 3-0 victory at Borussia Park.
During the previous Europa League season, Boniface exhibited his skills on a grand stage for Saint-Gilloise, even scoring against his current team in the quarterfinals. Across the group stage and round of 16, he accumulated two goals and two assists in four games.
With six goals in ten games during the 2022–2023 UEFA Europa League season, Victor Boniface matched the goal tally of Manchester United's Marcus Rashford.
In an interview with Bundesliga.com, Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, praised the attributes of the Nigerian talent and highlighted his selflessness since joining the team.
The Liverpool legend said, “Victor’s a real problem for opposition defenses. He’s powerful, quick, and makes runs from deep. He has a good mentality and works for the team, not for himself.”
