Matheus Nunes' Transfer to Manchester City from Wolves Is Now Official
Matheus Nunes has successfully concluded his transfer from Wolves to Manchester City, employing a strike strategy to ensure the deal's realization.
The reigning Premier League and UEFA Champions League champions parted with a sum of £53 million to secure the transfer. Additionally, Wolves negotiated a 10% sell-on clause as part of the agreement, entitling them to 10 percent of any future transfer involving the 25-year-old Portuguese midfielder.
Matheus Nunes, an 11-time international for Portugal, has inked a five-year contract with Manchester City, binding him to the club until June 30, 2028.
It's worth noting that Wolves initially turned down City's initial bid for Nunes, preferring a higher valuation exceeding £60 million.
Nunes had recently been absent from Wolves' training sessions as he expressed his desire to join coach Pep Guardiola's squad.
Wolves acquired Nunes from Sporting Lisbon last summer on a five-year deal, setting a club record with a £38 million transfer fee. He played a pivotal role in aiding Wolves in avoiding relegation and securing a 13th-place finish in the latter part of the previous season.
After completing his move to Manchester City, Matheus Nunes said, “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the champions of Europe and a club I’ve admired for a long time.
“The opportunity to work under [City manager] Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest managers ever, and alongside some of the best players in the world was something I simply couldn’t turn down.
“I learned so much during my season at Wolves and I’m excited to continue improving in the Premier League, a division which brings the best out of me. I’m really excited to get going, meet the fans, and hopefully be a part of plenty more success at City.”
