Jay Jay Okocha Identifies Three Players Exhibiting Similar Style to His Own

Nigerian football legend Austin Jay Jay Okocha asserts that only three players in the current football landscape exhibit the expressive style for which he was renowned during his active career.

Okocha, celebrated for his entertaining performances at Eintracht Frankfurt, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bolton, was distinguished by his unparalleled dribbling, trickery, free-kicks, and stylish ball distribution skills.

The 50-year-old retired footballer, now a football pundit, claims that the distinctive features he brought to the game are no longer commonplace. According to him, contemporary footballers often play with constraints and lack the individual identity that characterized his era.

In an interview with LiveScore, Okocha mentioned that only Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain, Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City, and Rafael Leao of AC Milan continue to play the kind of expressive football he was known for.

"Well, I think things have changed. It’s difficult really for players now to express themselves," Okocha stated. "I had the luxury to have my identity and to try and show what I can do with the ball. But now they are all limited."

He expressed that Mbappe, De Bruyne, and Leao are among the few who still exhibit the freedom to express themselves on the field. However, he noted the contemporary emphasis on finding the right moments to contribute to the team rather than expressing oneself just for the sake of it.
