Iheanacho acknowledges Vardy as a legend, emphasizing that they are not a competitor

Leicester City's forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has expressed that he doesn't view his role on the team as a competition with Jamie Vardy for a starting position.

Since joining King Power in 2017, Iheanacho has often played as a backup to Vardy.

Last season, the Nigerian international emerged as the top scorer for the Foxes and was honored with the club's Player of the Season award.

Both Iheanacho and Vardy have notched up four goals each for Enzo Maresca's team in the current season.

The 27-year-old openly expressed his respect for Vardy and hailed him as a legend. He stated, "Let me make it clear, it's not a competition between Jamie and me. He's a legendary figure in the game and has made immense contributions to this esteemed club. So, there's no rivalry between Jamie and me," he conveyed to LeicestershireLive.

"I hold the utmost respect for him; as I've mentioned previously, he's a legendary figure. So, there's no rivalry between us.

"If he's on the pitch, he scores, that's just Jamie. And if I'm on the pitch, I contribute in my own way. Whether it's me, Jamie, Patson (Daka), there's no competition here; we're content with our current situation," he explained.
