Enyimba is determined that Wydad will not avoid defeat
Two-time CAF Champions League victors, Enyimba FC of Aba, are resolute in not letting the impressive track record of Wydad Athletic Club intimidate them in their upcoming quarterfinal clash in the inaugural African Football League (AFL). The match is scheduled for 7:00 PM Nigerian time at the 'Nest Of Champions' in Uyo.
Enyimba FC commenced their NPFL season with a victory against Akwa United last Sunday, a triumph that has bolstered their confidence for the impending showdown against Wydad AC.
Eze Happy Ekwutoziam, a striker for Enyimba FC, expressed his belief that they possess the means to overcome the Moroccans in the forthcoming match. In a conversation with Enyimba media following their Thursday training session, Ekwutoziam emphasized that the team is fully aware of the expectations.
"We understand the significance of this match, given Wydad AC's strength and stature in African football. They are among the continent's giants, but we are not fazed. We've diligently prepared, maintained our shape, and devised strategies to overcome them. The expectations are high, not only from our fans but from all Nigerians and our supporters across West Africa. We won't disappoint them."
Furthermore, Ekwutoziam articulated their mindset going into the game, emphasizing the significance of the AFL league as a substantial platform for the team. "Being the inaugural edition, it presents a remarkable opportunity for most of us, and we are putting in the effort to make the most of it. We urge all our fans from across the nation and Africa to turn out in large numbers and cheer us on to victory. We assure them that we will give our all to secure the desired outcome."
In addition to Ekwutoziam's sentiments, emerging talent Chibueze Izuogu, who left a strong impression on Enyimba fans during the NPFL match against Akwa United, called upon the People's Elephant supporters to provide unwavering support by rallying behind the team.
"I am tremendously pleased to represent Nigeria in this inaugural edition of the AFL league. I promise our beloved fans that we will give our utmost effort because our mentality and confidence within the squad are soaring. Everyone is diligently preparing to secure the required victory."
It's worth noting that FIFA, the global governing body for soccer, will live-stream the match for fans worldwide. The African Football League (AFL) is a fresh competition resulting from a collaboration between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA. The inaugural edition brings together eight of the continent's most renowned and successful teams, representing all African regional blocs.
