Diri Declares: 'Sylva Isn't Running for Governor; Voting APC Invalidates Ballot'
On Tuesday, Bayelsa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 11th, 2023 election, Douye Diri, asserted that Timipre Sylva has not been officially recognized by the court as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Diri warned that a vote for the APC in the upcoming election would be considered invalid.
Speaking in Agbere Community during the grand finale of constituency campaigns in Sagbama Constituency III, Diri and his campaign team visited several communities, emphasizing the need for people to vote for the PDP. At Trofani Community, where the governor inaugurated an electricity project, he urged residents not to be swayed by Sylva's promises.
Diri highlighted the court's position on Sylva's candidacy and accused the APC of continuously filing appeals as the election date approaches. He declared that any vote for the APC would be deemed invalid, emphasizing the legal challenges faced by Sylva.
Addressing the crowd, Diri stated, “Let me remind you that in this election that we are going on November 11, now Timipre Sylva is not a candidate, who said it? It is the court. Up till now, they are filing and filing appeals and the date is getting closer. They will file and file out of time."
Diri also expressed concern about attempts to disrupt PDP campaigns and rallies, advising Sylva to play by the rules and not resort to tactics that could create a lawless society. He encouraged a lawful and fair electoral process, emphasizing the need for all parties to abide by the rules.
