Boniface sets a Bundesliga record but reflects, "I could have scored more."
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has commented on his achievement of breaking a 29-year-old record in the German Bundesliga. He now holds the record for the most shots on goal after five rounds of games, surpassing the previous record of 25 shots held by Uwe Wegmann from Bochum during the 1994/1995 season.
Boniface achieved this milestone on Sunday during Bayer Leverkusen's 4-1 victory over newly promoted Heidenheim at the BayArena. The former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise striker not only set the record but also played a significant role in two of Bayer Leverkusen's goals, making it a remarkable day for him.
However, in his post-match remarks, Boniface expressed his dissatisfaction with breaking the long-standing record, believing he could have performed even better. He was quoted as saying, "If you've had 38 shots on goal as a player, you should have scored at least 25 goals. So, I don't want to pat myself on the back for that."
It's worth noting that Boniface has only failed to contribute to a goal for Bayer Leverkusen on one occasion this season, which happened during their 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich on matchday 4 of the Bundesliga. Thus far, he has scored a total of 8 goals across all competitions for the Black and Reds in this campaign.
