Ajax could potentially face relegation, according to Olise
Former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, has voiced his apprehension about the potential relegation of his former club, Ajax Amsterdam. This comes in the wake of Ajax's 4-3 loss to Utrecht in the Eredivisie, marking their fourth defeat in the 2023/24 season. Currently, Ajax sits in the 17th position on the league table with just five points from seven games.
The team, affectionately known as the "Sons of the Gods," were Dutch league champions in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. However, they now find themselves at the bottom of the table with only one victory this season. The consecutive losses this season are raising concerns for Oliseh, who proudly wore Ajax's jersey during his playing career.
In light of their underwhelming performance, Oliseh raised the prospect of Ajax potentially facing relegation to the second division of the Dutch league.
He expressed his dismay, stating, "It's disheartening to witness Ajax's incredibly disappointing first-half performance today. I've never seen my former club struggle like this before! Surprisingly, there's a chance that Ajax might face relegation. There's a lot of work required across all departments!"
Historically, Ajax, PSV, and Feyenoord are recognized as the "Big Three" in the Eredivisie, being the only clubs to maintain their top-tier status since the league's inception without encountering relegation.
Ajax's recent decline in performance has sparked worries about the possibility of an unexpected twist of fate. This could potentially lead to these football powerhouses competing in the Erste Divisie.
