Sheffield United prepared to bring Nigerian striker Josh Maja to England in January

ENGLISH Premier league side Sheffield United are lining up a bid of between €6m and €7m for Nigerian striker Josh Maja with a view towards prising him away from French side Bordeaux during the forthcoming January transfer window.

Sheffield United are currently sitting bottom of the English Premier League with just two points from 14 games, looking like certainties to get relegated. So far this season, the club has only scored eight goals, leading manager Chris Wilde to make signing a goalscorer his main priority come January.

Maja, 21, played youth football with Crystal Palace, Fulham and Manchester City after beginning his professional career with Sunderland, making 49 appearances and scoring 17 goals. Born in England, Maja made his international debut for Nigeria in September 2019 and in January 2019, he joined Bordeaux.

So far this season, Maja has scored two goals in eight appearances for Bordeaux in La Liga but since moving to France, he has registered 11 goals in 45 matches for The Girondins. Maja is under contract with Bordeaux until the end of the 2022/23 season, so prising him away is not going to be easy.
