Adebayo Claims INEC Serves as the Epicenter of Fraud in Nigeria
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has characterized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the epicenter of fraudulent activities in the country.
He made this statement on Tuesday during an online interactive forum called HaveYourSay247, where he engaged with a diverse group of Nigerians. The forum was moderated by Rudolf Okonkwo.
Adebayo recounted how he had previously cautioned stakeholders about INEC's lack of sincerity as the electoral body had promised to electronically transmit election results ahead of the February 25 presidential election. He emphasized that INEC's actions were misleading, and he questioned the credibility of an institution that required financial inducements for political party registration, report filing, and invitations to party conventions.
"In the eyes of many, INEC is the headquarters of fraudulent activities," he declared.
Regarding his campaign efforts during the election, Adewole explained that he extensively traveled across the country, acknowledging that even prominent figures like Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe had failed to secure the presidency, despite their popularity.
He argued, "The world hasn't seen more than nine individuals like Zik, yet he couldn't win the presidential election in Nigeria."
Adebayo also addressed why he chose not to challenge the election results in court, stating that pursuing a legal remedy would have been futile because not all wrongs can be rectified through the legal system. He emphasized that approaching the court required specific legal issues rather than general complaints, and this was a crucial point that election petitioners should understand.
