US ambassador Richard Mills exits Nigeria amid global envoy recall
Following President Donald Trump's recall of envoys from several US posts across the globe, Richard Mills has resigned as US ambassador to Nigeria.
Mills' last day of employment was Friday, according to a statement released by the US embassy in Nigeria on Tuesday.
In May 2024, his appointment as ambassador was confirmed.
Mills was removed from his position in December due to a diplomatic reorganisation, although ambassadors normally hold their positions for three to four years.
Nearly two dozen countries in Africa appeared to be the most seriously affected.

Mills' recall coincides with tense relations between the US and Nigeria due to security concerns and visa disputes.
The action took place at the same time when both countries were working to develop plans to deepen their collaboration.
The recalled ambassadors will keep their foreign service jobs and are free to return to Washington for other assignments, according to State Department officials.
Keith Heffern, the current deputy chief of mission, will act as chargé d'affaires until further notice, according to a statement released by the US mission in Nigeria.
