Two foreign nationals killed in Anthony Joshua crash — Ogun gov aide
The Ogun State Government has disclosed that two people who lost their lives in the road crash involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, were foreign nationals.
Earlier, PUNCH Online reported that the accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday. A PUNCH reporter, Adeniyi Orojo, who witnessed the aftermath, said the collision happened near Danco Filling Station in Makun, close to the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound section of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
According to the report, the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua, bearing registration number KRD 850 HN, ran into a stationary truck.
In a statement released on Monday, the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, conveyed the state government’s sympathy to the families, friends, and associates of those who died in the incident.
Akinmade explained that the tragic crash occurred along the busy Makun axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and resulted in the death of two individuals.
He stated that Anthony Joshua was travelling from Lagos to Sagamu alongside three others when the accident occurred. Preliminary findings revealed that two male foreign nationals died instantly, and their bodies have been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.
The statement further disclosed that Joshua and the vehicle’s driver were rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and taken to a hospital, where they are currently undergoing medical treatment.
It added that the SUV was severely damaged after crashing into the stationary truck. While the wrecked vehicle has been moved to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division office, arrangements are underway to tow the truck to the same location to aid a thorough investigation.
Describing the incident as tragic and heartbreaking, the Ogun State Government noted that, in addition to the fatalities, other occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical attention.
The government urged motorists to remain vigilant and strictly observe traffic rules, especially during the festive period when road traffic is typically heavy. It also called on road safety officials and security agencies to step up monitoring and enforcement efforts across the state.
The statement concluded by expressing deep sympathy to the bereaved families, offering prayers for the deceased and wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
