Two additional doctors were apprehended in Plateau State for involvement in organ harvesting

The Plateau State Police Command has apprehended two more medical doctors in relation to the alleged illegal harvesting of vital human organs by a suspected fake doctor named Noah Kekere.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Alabo Alfred, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos on Tuesday.

Alabo stated that the suspects, in addition to Kekere, are presently in police custody and are undergoing investigation.

Kekere, who is suspected of being an unlicensed medical practitioner, was recently arrested following accusations of illegally harvesting a woman's kidney during a surgical procedure.

The Nigerian Medical Association's Plateau State chapter has officially distanced itself from Kekere, asserting that investigations have confirmed he is not a licensed medical doctor.

Alabo, who withheld the names of the two additional suspects, further noted that the State's Commissioner of Police would soon establish a specialized committee comprising medical experts to conduct a thorough investigation and examination of the woman who alleges that Kekere removed one of her vital organs during a surgical procedure.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) stated that this action would allow the command to determine whether the victim's crucial organ was indeed interfered with.

"We have apprehended two additional suspects who conducted the surgical procedure on the woman. We are collaborating with the State Ministry of Health and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to secure the expertise of professionals who will aid in our investigative efforts.

"The Commissioner of Police will establish a committee comprising experienced medical experts to thoroughly examine these allegations and uncover the truth," Alabo stated.

NAN reported that Kekere was arrested by the police following accusations from a businessman, Alhaji Kamal, who alleged that Kekere removed one of his wife's kidneys during a surgery in 2018.

Kamal explained that his wife, Kehinde, who had been enduring chronic abdominal pain for five years, was brought to Kekere's clinic in the Nasarawa Gwom community of Jos North Local Government Area. Kekere conducted a medical evaluation, concluding that she had a ruptured appendix and needed immediate surgery, leading to the operation.
