Sorrowful Farewell as Female Police Inspector Slain in Otukpo Bank Robbery is Laid to Rest
Female Police Inspector Adija Bello, struck by the bullets of armed robbers during the assault on the Divisional Police Station in Otukpo, Benue State, and five banks in the state last Friday, has been laid to rest. The Benue Police Command confirmed the death of four officers, including the Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) John Adikwu, in the attack.
The burial ceremony, held in Okene, Kogi State, on Monday evening, was marked by profound sadness and wailing. The female Inspector was interred in the cemetery upon her arrival in Okene around 7 pm.
The late Inspector's husband, Abdulganiyu Omeiza, a police officer attached to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 54 in Onitsha, Anambra State, expressed deep sorrow over the brutal murder of his wife. He shared that they spoke on the phone shortly before her tragic death at the hands of the robbers.
Omeiza lamented, "She was everything to me. I really miss her every day. Every day before she goes to work or takes the kids to school, I would call her to know how they are doing... But I woke up by 8.00 am and I called her. She said she did not want to disturb me because she knew since I was on night duty, I would not be able to call them early."
On the fateful day, Omeiza recounted that his wife called him a few minutes before 3 pm, unaware that it would be their final conversation.
A close friend of the deceased, Emma Yambasu, described the Inspector as a friendly person widely known in Otupo for her kindness and amiable nature. Yambasu expressed disbelief at the tragic event, stating, "She was a very good person, with a heart of gold, selfless, and always putting others before herself. There is nobody who doesn't know her in Otukpo because of her kindness and friendly disposition... I don't know why they would do this. It's not like they tried to stop them."
