Soludo shuts Onitsha main market over Monday sit-at-home sabotage

Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, has closed Onitsha Main Market and announced a complete crackdown on what he described as traders' economic sabotage.

According to a government announcement, "the Anambra State administration has moved in to crack down on all who help and abet the prolonged economic sabotage camouflaged as "Monday sit at home."

"This initial notification will be made for a week. The shutdown will be extended to one month if the market is closed by Monday of next week.

Many offices and schools in the state remained closed despite the state government's strict order that employees who do not report for work on Mondays will no longer be paid.
