Recalled Indomie vegetable not sold in Nigeria — NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has assured Nigerians in light of a recent recall notice concerning Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour, clarifying that the product in question is neither registered nor available for sale in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Sunday, the agency detailed that the recall was called for by French health authorities and does not pertain to any Indomie items that are produced or authorized for distribution within Nigeria.

NAFDAC reported that the recall was prompted by Rappel Conso, France’s official consumer safety platform, which found undeclared allergens—specifically milk and eggs—in the Vegetable Flavour variant, potentially posing health risks to those with allergies or intolerances.

The statement, issued by NAFDAC's Director-General, Professor Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, underscored that the recalled product does not originate from Nigeria and is not registered with the agency.

“The Indomie noodles vegetable flavour in question has not been registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for sale in Nigeria,” the statement indicated.

NAFDAC further clarified that noodles are included in the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their importation into Nigeria illegal and diminishing the chances of the recalled product entering the local market.

As a precautionary measure, the agency stated it has heightened surveillance efforts across the nation to avert any potential entry of the affected product. Zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to stay alert and to withdraw the product from circulation if encountered anywhere in the country. The Ports Inspection Directorate has also been put on heightened alert.

The agency reassured the public that all noodles registered by NAFDAC for sale in Nigeria are produced locally and are only approved after adhering to stringent regulatory standards, including full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice norms.

NAFDAC urged consumers to remain vigilant, dispose of the recalled product if found, and report any suspected sales or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free number, 0800-162-3322. Consumers were also encouraged to report any adverse reactions through the agency’s electronic reporting platforms.

In a related announcement, Indomie Nigeria distanced its locally produced items from the recall notice, affirming that all Indomie noodles made in Nigeria are safe for consumption.

The company stated that it does not manufacture, import, distribute, or sell any noodle variant called Vegetable Flavour in Nigeria.

“As noted in NAFDAC’s official press release, the recall of the affected product was initiated in France in August 2025, and the alert was issued solely as a precaution to protect the Nigerian public,” Indomie Nigeria clarified.

The company added that all Indomie noodles produced by Dufil Prima Foods in Nigeria undergo thorough quality control measures and fully adhere to NAFDAC regulations. It also pointed out that images circulating online of the recalled product do not conform to Indomie Nigeria’s approved packaging, branding, or labeling standards.

Reiterating that the importation of noodles into Nigeria is illegal, Indomie Nigeria urged consumers to be cautious regarding noodle products with unfamiliar or inconsistent packaging and to trust only verified information from official sources.

Both NAFDAC and Indomie Nigeria called on the public to stay calm, assuring Nigerians that locally produced Indomie noodles are safe and not affected by the foreign recall notice.
