President Biden explained the rationale behind inviting Nigeria to the G20 summit

During the G20 summit in New Delhi, India, President Joe Biden of the United States met with President Bola Tinubu on Sunday. The purpose of this meeting was to underscore the United States' dedication to its relationship with Nigeria.

Biden expressed his administration's unwavering commitment to the enduring friendship between the two nations and their people, as documented in an official statement on the White House website. He commended the efforts undertaken by the Tinubu administration to instigate economic reforms within Nigeria.

The statement states, "President Biden appreciated the efforts of the Tinubu Administration in advancing economic reforms within Nigeria. He also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his strong leadership as the Chair of the Economic Community of West African States, which has been instrumental in upholding and safeguarding democracy and the rule of law in Niger and the broader region."

Regarding Nigeria's inclusion in the G20 summit, the statement highlights, "The invitation extended to Nigeria for the G20 Summit acknowledges Nigeria's significant global role as the largest democracy and economy in Africa."

Tinubu participated in the two-day summit at the special invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Tinubu was joined by a delegation including the following ministers:

Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs
Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy
Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy
Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

Tinubu engaged in bilateral meetings with the leaders of Germany, South Korea, and India.

During his conversation with the German leader, Olaf Scholz, Tinubu stressed the importance of not solely concentrating on establishing a financial framework for a broader economic partnership.

In an effort to stimulate economic growth, Tinubu mentioned that the government is implementing new incentives aimed at attracting major manufacturers, such as Volkswagen, to establish a presence in the country.

In response to Tinubu's economic proposals, the German Chancellor recognized the mutually advantageous nature of expanding economic relations with Nigeria. He stated, "I appreciate this significant dialogue, Mr. President. It's a valuable opportunity to enhance our economic ties. Your market holds a unique position, and our companies have a history of involvement in Nigeria. We acknowledge the business-friendly reforms you've implemented."

"I am pleased to share my intention to visit Nigeria in October, enabling us to advance these initiatives," the German leader revealed.

Simultaneously, the President will hold discussions with the leadership of the United Arab Emirates during a technical stopover in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, following his departure from New Delhi, India.
