Ondo deep seaport to boost regional trade — Aiyedatiwa

The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has stated that the proposed Ondo Deep Sea Port will serve as a key center for international trade, with advantages extending beyond Ondo State to Nigeria and neighboring West African nations.

The governor made this announcement after receiving the revalidated license for the Ondo Deep Sea Port initiative from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola.

Aiyedatiwa mentioned that the Ondo State Government is fully prepared to initiate the project, emphasizing that the deep sea port is vital infrastructure that surpasses state-level use and places Ondo as a crucial gateway for international commerce and maritime activities.

He highlighted that the port is engineered to support industrial operations, trade, and the broader economy, with facilities capable of accommodating businesses from across Nigeria and the West African region.

As per the governor, the deep sea port has a natural draught of about 18 meters, allowing very large vessels, larger than those currently docking at Lagos ports, to easily berth.

He detailed that the depth and capacity of the port would eliminate the need for trans-shipment, enabling vessels to navigate directly into the waters of Ondo State without any detour.

Aiyedatiwa indicated that the project would bring substantial economic advantages beyond cargo handling, pointing out that once construction starts, the state will likely see a significant rise in human and commercial activities.

He further added that the anticipated influx of investors, financial institutions, and humanitarian service agencies would further boost growth in the hospitality sector and other related industries in the state.

The governor expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for expediting the revalidation of the port’s license, calling the development a significant milestone towards realizing the long-awaited Ondo Deep Sea Port project.
