Numerous Casualties Reported Following NAF Airstrikes on Bandits' Shelter in Zamfara

Scores of bandits in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State were reportedly eliminated by the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) through airstrikes.

On Tuesday, a substantial number of bandits were observed moving from a Zamfara State forest to Kebbi State, intending to launch attacks on villages in the region.

A high-ranking military official, confirming the airstrikes to Channels Television, mentioned that the bandits, upon detecting troops along their planned route, retreated to the Dansadau axis of the Maru Local Government Area.

The Nigerian Air Force airstrikes reportedly engaged the terrorist group, resulting in the death of at least a hundred of them on Tuesday. The bandits and their motorcycles were burnt, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Allegedly, the interment of the deceased terrorists took place in the Sangeko forest in Niger State and Babban Doka in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Captain Yahaya Ibrahim, the spokesperson for Operation Hadarin Daji, informed journalists that the exact count of casualties remained undetermined as of the time of filing the report.

In response to the development, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) for the Nigerian Air Force, affirmed the airstrikes in Zamfara State. However, he couldn't verify the precise number of casualties, stating in a brief statement on Wednesday night, "Yes, indeed, airstrikes were conducted on a number of mobile terrorists, but I can't confirm numbers to you."
