NDLEA seizes 7.6m tramadol pills, 76 tons of cannabis
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has declared the successful discovery of large quantities of illegal drugs in several states, announcing the confiscation of over 7.6 million tramadol pills and more than 76,273 kilograms of cannabis during recent intelligence-driven operations across the country.
As stated by the agency's spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, personnel in Delta State seized a considerable amount of narcotics on December 6th. In particular, 3,874,000 tramadol pills and 252.2 litres of codeine syrup were found in a warehouse at Oko Market in Asaba.
In Imo State, operatives effectively intercepted 1.2 million tramadol tablets along the Onitsha–Owerri Road, which were recovered from a vehicle operated by Kelechi Nwakocha, who is 35 years old.
In Adamawa State, a Toyota Hiace bus was halted along the Maraba–Mubi Road, leading to the confiscation of 1,577,112 capsules of tramadol and Exol-5, which had been cunningly hidden inside bags of sandals and slippers. The operation concluded with the arrest of two individuals, Kabiru Buba (25) and Hamza Abubakar (32). Additionally, another suspect, Mudansir Rabiu (27), was subsequently captured along the Zaria–Kano Road with 197,000 pills.
In Ekiti State, NDLEA operatives performed operations in forests that resulted in the elimination of significant amounts of illegal substances. They destroyed 14,654kg of skunk in Omuo-Ekiti and another 54,300kg in the forests of Asin-Ekiti. Two individuals, Yusuf Iliyasu (50) and Okumu Chinedu (26), were arrested during these interventions.
In Ondo State, officers conducted a raid in the Igoba Forest located in Akure North, which resulted in the recovery of 2,483 compressed blocks and 247 bags of skunk weighing a combined total of 5,442kg. Five individuals were taken into custody in connection with this finding.
Edo State also witnessed noteworthy seizures, as authorities recovered a total of 447.5kg of skunk from two vehicles in Agho Forest. Furthermore, 315.8kg of the substance was seized from a warehouse in the Isiefve community. Two suspects were detained during the operations in Edo State.
Babafemi remarked that these extensive operations were successfully carried out based on reliable intelligence. He also issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, confirming that the agency will persist in tightening its grip on their activities.
Babafemi emphasized: “We will not cease in our efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks throughout the nation.”
