NASENI launches ‘FutureMakers’ program to groom young innovators
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has officially launched FutureMakers, a new national initiative aimed at nurturing young innovators between the ages of 5 and 16 years, strategically positioning Nigeria for future technological growth.
The initiative was formally introduced on Thursday at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja. During the event, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, described FutureMakers as a vital strategic investment in the next generation of scientists, engineers, and creative thinkers in the country.
Halilu stated that the program aims to motivate children to come up with innovative solutions to social issues by enhancing creativity, critical thinking skills, and providing early exposure to science and technology.
He stressed the importance of targeting this young audience. “Today, we are taking another step toward ensuring Nigeria’s long-term innovation future. FutureMakers aims to identify, develop, and empower young innovators aged 5 to 16. Early exposure fosters lifelong innovators, and Nigeria is joining this effort through this program,” he explained.
He also indicated that this initiative fits into NASENI’s broad, long-term strategy to build technical confidence at an early age, prepare youth for successful careers in STEM, entrepreneurship, and leadership, and ultimately fortify the national innovation ecosystem from its roots.
Halilu reiterated the program’s long-term influence on generations to come, adding: “This is our approach to securing Nigeria’s innovation sustainability over the next 30 to 50 years.” He then urged parents,
