NAF to Enhance Counter Operations with 51 New Helicopter Additions
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is eagerly anticipating the arrival of 51 additional platforms, as disclosed by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar. These additions aim to strengthen the NAF's counter-insurgency and counterterrorism efforts.
During his initial operational tour of NAF units in Makurdi, Benue State, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar made the announcement.
In his address to officers and personnel during the tour, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar emphasized the importance of these new acquisitions in improving training, air power utilization, and projection capabilities. The procurement of advanced platforms is expected to bolster the NAF's ability to effectively tackle security challenges in the country.
The forthcoming additions to the NAF's fleet consist of two Agusta 109 Trekker Multi-role helicopters, two Beechcraft King Air 360, three Diamond DA-62 surveillance aircraft, and six T-129 ATAK helicopters. Additionally, the NAF is preparing to obtain two CASA-295 medium airlift/surveillance aircraft, 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters, and 24 M-346 attack aircraft, further reinforcing its operational capacities.
Air Vice Marshal Abubakar emphasized that these acquisitions underscore the Nigerian government's steadfast commitment to equipping the NAF for secure and agile airpower utilization, highlighting their dedication to addressing the nation's security challenges.
Furthermore, he emphasized the crucial role of cooperation and joint efforts among various services and security agencies in effectively resolving the country's security issues. The NAF aims to foster seamless interoperability of equipment and joint force employment as part of a comprehensive whole-of-nation approach.
In his address, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar urged NAF personnel to work collaboratively with other services and security agencies, fulfilling the expectations of the Nigerian people and restoring peace and security to ensure a safe and prosperous nation.
