Meta to launch new test allowing eBay on Facebook marketplace

On Wednesday, Meta announced that it would begin a new test in Germany, France, and the United States, allowing buyers to browse eBay listings on Facebook Marketplace and complete their transactions directly on eBay.

This move is part of Meta's ongoing efforts to expand the Marketplace platform.

This comes after the European Commission fined Meta $840 million in November for anti-competitive behaviour related to Facebook Marketplace. The Commission accused Meta of abusing its market position to prioritise its own services over competitors. Meta is appealing the decision, but the company has confirmed that it is working to address the Commission's concerns.

In a statement, Meta explained that eBay sellers would benefit from increased exposure to Facebook's large audience, while Facebook Marketplace users would have access to a broader range of eBay community listings.

The European Commission did not immediately respond to Meta's latest announcement. The collaboration between the two tech behemoths marks a significant shift in the e-commerce landscape, potentially reshaping how users shop across these platforms.
