Lagos business mogul Otunba Adekunle Ojora dies at 93

The Ojora family of Lagos has announced the passing of their patriarch, Otunba Adekunle Ojora, the Olori Omo Oba of Lagos, who died early Wednesday morning at the age of 93.

The family stated that he will be buried in Lagos according to Islamic rites. They called on members of the public to pray for his soul.

In a statement signed by Mrs Toyin Ojora-Saraki, the family said Ojora passed away “in full submission to the will of Almighty Allah (SWT).”

“We say Alhamdulilahi for a life well lived, and we comply with Allah’s words: ‘Surely, to Allah we belong, and to Him we will all return’” (Q2:156).

“He is survived by his lovely wife, Erelu Ojuolape Ojora, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren,” the statement added.

Born in 1932, Ojora started working as a journalist for the BBC in the early 1950s, according to The Advance of African Capital.

Later, in 1962, he became an executive with United Africa Company (UAC). From 1971 until Unipetrol purchased AGIP Nigeria Limited in 2002, he served as chairman of the board.

In the 1970s, he also made investments in a number of international companies in Nigeria. The expansion of Nigerian private enterprise was greatly aided by this.

"We urge all members of the public to join us in praying to Allah to grant His servant, who has lived a dignified life, reprieve in the grave and a place in Aljannah Firdaus," the family said in closing.
