LCCI elects Leye Kupoluyi as new president
The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry has chosen Mr. Leye Kupoluyi to be its new President and Chairman of Council.
This announcement was formally made on Thursday by Dr. Chinyere Almona, the Director General of LCCI, during the chamber’s 137th Annual General Meeting held in Lagos.
Kupoluyi’s selection follows the conclusion of Mr. Gabriel Idahosa’s term, which was marked by significant contributions to business advocacy and policy reforms in the sector. Dr. Almona described Kupoluyi as a highly accomplished professional with a remarkable track record of leadership, commitment, and service in various areas, including engineering services, trade promotion, and industrial development.
Dr. Almona also highlighted that his election reflects LCCI’s acknowledgement of Kupoluyi’s steadfast dedication to its core principles, advocacy initiatives, and the ongoing promotion of a vibrant environment for Nigerian enterprises.
She remarked, “We are thrilled to welcome Engr. Kupoluyi as the president of the LCCI. Having been a council member and key officer of the chamber, he has consistently offered his expertise and provided valuable insights during strategic discussions. We are confident that his presidency will further enhance the chamber’s role as a primary advocate for effective business policies and practices. He will also promote the interests of our members and the wider business community.”
Kupoluyi brings over 40 years of professional experience, encompassing engineering, project management, and leadership roles. Since November 1994, he has been the Managing Director of Universal Power Systems Nigeria Limited. Before this, he was the General Manager at Witt +Busch Limited from May 1988 to November 1994 and served as a Project Manager at Honeywell Enterprises Limited from August 1986 to May 1988.
His earlier career also included roles at Witt +Busch Limited as a Service Manager and Senior Engineer. He began his professional career as an Engineer at the Ministry of Communications in Ilorin, Kwara State, where he worked from April 1979 to December 1984.
With Kupoluyi in charge, the LCCI is anticipated to maintain its vigorous advocacy for policies that encourage business growth and industrial development throughout Lagos and Nigeria. His vast expertise in engineering and trade positions him uniquely to enhance the Chamber’s influence on creating a more business-friendly environment for both local and international investors.
Founded in 1888, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry is recognized as Nigeria’s oldest and one of its most prominent business membership organizations. It acts as a crucial platform for private sector involvement, advocating for effective business policies, trade promotion efforts, and overall industrial advancement.
