Kano gov plans N1trn budget for 2026

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf announced on Friday that his administration is finalising the state’s first‑ever proposed budget of *N 1 trillion* for the 2026 financial year.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin‑Tofa, the governor disclosed the figure while opening the Second Special Executive Council Meeting, convened to review the 2026 budget proposals ahead of submission to the State House of Assembly next week.

Yusuf explained that the historic N 1 trillion figure is driven by a substantial rise in internally generated revenue and the sealing of revenue leakages. “We have strengthened internal revenue mechanisms and sealed leakages, enabling us to plan boldly for transformative projects in 2026,” he said.

The 2026 budget will focus on housing, agriculture, education, healthcare, and support for small‑ and medium‑ enterprises to stimulate economic growth and create sustainable livelihoods. Once concluded, the proposal will be transmitted to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.

Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and ensuring every sector gets the needed support to deliver quality services. If approved, it will be the first budget of its size from any northern state in Nigeria.
