Germany denounces assault on Israel and vows assistance
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in a phone conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed condemnation of the Hamas attack on Israel and assured Germany's support for Israel. Scholz also mentioned a review of Germany's humanitarian aid for Palestinians.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel also denounced the multi-front attack by the militant group Hamas against Israel on Monday.
In an official statement, Merkel expressed strong condemnation of the Hamas attacks on the state of Israel, stating, "I strongly denounce the acts of aggression carried out by Hamas against the state of Israel. My thoughts and support go out to the Israeli people and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government." Merkel, a centrist leader who served as Germany's Chancellor from 2005 to 2021, voiced her solidarity.
