Four individuals have been hospitalized after a car collided with a building in Lagos
At least four adult males suffered serious injuries in a Lexus car accident along Liasu Road in the Idimu area of Lagos State. The incident occurred around 5 am on Sunday when the speeding vehicle lost control, veered off the road, and collided with a shop opposite a Catholic church in the vicinity. The crash also caused damage to a building behind the shop, affecting occupants who were still asleep at the time.
According to eyewitnesses, the occupants suffered varying degrees of injuries during the incident. Sodiq Aderemi, an eyewitness, mentioned that the injured individuals were laborers hired to work in the building on the premises.
Aderemi explained, "The vehicle was approaching from the Council bus stop when it reached this point and collided with the shop, causing damage to all the goods inside. The residents in the building behind the shop were laborers, numbering around 15. They work in an unfinished building on the premises and stay overnight. Four of them sustained serious injuries, and two others lost consciousness. They were later revived. The falling bricks from the fence struck them while they were still asleep."
A different resident, who goes by the name Abidemi, mentioned that the car was halted by an electric pole, which was also affected in the incident.
He remarked, "The accident could have been much worse if not for the electric pole that brought the car to a stop. Thankfully, it occurred during the daytime and not when the shop owner was inside. Nevertheless, she was informed this morning about the destruction of her shop, and she arrived with her husband. They have reported the incident to the police.
The injured victims were reportedly transported to the hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment."
While the driver managed to escape without injuries, residents apprehended him as he attempted to flee the accident site. Adekunle Daisi, one of the residents who stopped him, explained, "There were three occupants in the car. Two escaped, but one was apprehended and brought back to the accident site. Initially, some angered individuals wanted to set the car ablaze and subject him to mob justice, but they were eventually restrained. He was later compelled to accompany the injured victims to the hospital, where he was instructed to cover their medical expenses."
Several victims with minor injuries were promptly treated and discharged from the hospital. As of the reporter's departure from the scene, the police had not yet arrived.
