Diezani Alison-Madueke, Former Nigerian Petroleum Minister, Faces UK Bribery Charges
Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum, has been formally charged with bribery offenses by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA). The NCA's website reveals that Alison-Madueke stands accused of accepting bribes in exchange for granting lucrative oil and gas contracts. She is scheduled to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 2.
"We suspect Diezani Alison-Madueke misused her authority in Nigeria, allegedly taking illicit financial incentives for awarding multi-million-pound contracts," stated Andy Kelly, the head of NCA's International Corruption Unit. He added, "These charges mark a significant point in a comprehensive and intricate global investigation."
Alison-Madueke, a pivotal figure during the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan, held the role of Nigeria's petroleum minister from 2010 to 2015. The 63-year-old, who once led the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and acted as its president, now faces legal action following an extensive international probe."
