Borno gov raises CJTF, vigilantes’ monthly allowance to ₦50,000

The Borno Youth Empowerment Scheme, also known as the Civilian Joint Task Force, Vigilantes, Hunters, and Neighbourhood Watch, has authorised an increase in the monthly payments for security volunteers, according to Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

The ruling demonstrates the state government's dedication to helping those who put their lives in danger every day in order to defend communities and bring about enduring peace in Borno.

Governor Zulum approved increasing the monthly allowance for each volunteer from ₦30,000 to ₦50,000, while leaders of the volunteer groups will now receive ₦150,000 each, according to a statement made by Dauda Iliya, Special Advisor to the Governor on Media, and obtained by journalists on Saturday in Maiduguri.

Beneficiaries' accounts have already started to receive the updated allowances, increasing the state's monthly expenditure on the program to ₦232.4 million.

These volunteer organisations have been essential allies in the battle against the Boko Haram insurgency, helping the Nigerian military and other security organisations to keep Borno State peaceful and stable.

When Governor Zulum took office in 2019, he upped the monthly allowances for volunteers from ₦15,000 to ₦20,000 and then to ₦30,000. Since then, the state government has regularly given each volunteer ₦30,000 every month.

However, current economic challenges, rising living costs, and heightened operational risks have necessitated another review.

“The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Vigilantes, Hunters, and Neighbourhood Watch have consistently demonstrated gallantry, resilience, and unwavering commitment in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents,” Zulum stated.

“In recognition of these sacrifices and in appreciation of their steadfast dedication to peace and security, His Excellency has approved an upward review of the monthly allowance for each volunteer from ₦30,000.00 to ₦50,000.00, while leaders of the volunteer groups will now receive ₦150,000.00 each,” he added.

The increase takes effect from January 2026, with 45 leaders benefiting from the new leadership allowance.

It is anticipated that the increased stipends will strengthen volunteers' resolve to continue security operations, increase morale, and improve operational performance.

In addition to providing vital intelligence that has stopped attacks and saved lives and property in villages around the state, they have arrested important rebel commanders.

In order to establish long-lasting peace, stability, and development in Borno State, Governor Zulum urged the volunteers to maintain discipline, rededicate themselves to duty, and continue working with security agencies. He also praised the volunteers for their bravery, patriotism, and selfless service.
