Apple adds studio-quality recording, camera control to AirPods

Apple unveiled new features for its AirPods range at the Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, introducing high-fidelity audio recording and a new camera remote gesture.

These enhancements, available for AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, and AirPods Pro 2, aim to improve users' experiences in both content creation and communication.

The new audio recording capability allows users to capture high-quality sound even in difficult conditions. According to Apple, the combination of its H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and computational audio will deliver clearer, more natural voice recordings, whether recording on the go or making calls via FaceTime or other applications.

Alongside the audio enhancements, AirPods will now function as a camera remote. By pressing and holding the stem of the AirPods, users can activate the iPhone's camera or compatible third-party camera applications to take pictures or begin video recording.

Apple states that this feature will provide options for both still images and videos, making it particularly beneficial for creators and vloggers.

While the company has not confirmed any direct connections, the gesture-based control could hint at how users may interact with future Apple devices, including the speculated augmented reality glasses.

With these updates, Apple continues to redefine AirPods as more than merely wireless earbuds, transforming them into multifunctional tools for both productivity and creativity.
