Newcastle United plan bringing Ademola Lookman back from Germany on loan for the rest of the season

ENGLISH Premier League side Newcastle United are planning an audacious raid for Nigerian-born winger Ademola Lookman with a view to bringing him back to England from German side RB Leipzig in the current transfer window.

Lookman, 22, signed a five year deal with Bundesliga side Leipzig in the summer, making permanent his switch from Everton. He has dual nationality, so can play for both England and Nigeria but has previously featured for several England youth teams and was a member of the English U-20 team that won the 2017 Fifa World Cup.

Now highly rated and bought from Everton for £22.5m, Lookman recently said he would consider switching his allegiance to Nigeria to enable him feature for the Super Eagles. Lookman had originally asked for time to consider his future when he was contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) at a meeting with Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr.

England manager Gareth Southgate, who coached Lookman at youth level is keen on the player, however and is expected to keep up his pursuit of the winger. Lookman is expected to be back in the spotlight if Newcastle bring him back to the Premier League as the player is said to be keen to move because of late, his playing opportunities have been limited.

If the move goes ahead, Newcastle will be looking to sign Lookman on loan until the end of the season with a subsequent purchase option inserted into the contract. This season, Lookman who is managed by Nigerian agent Emeka Obasi, has only started twice for Leipzig in all competitions.
