Inspector-general of police orders arrest of Senator Abbo in response to public outrage over assault

INSPECTOR-general of police Mohammed Adamu has ordered the immediate arrest of Adamawa North’s Senator Elijah Abbo following the public outcry for his prosecution after he was filmed slapping a female shopkeeper in Abuja.

Over the last 24 hours a Youtube video showing the senator slapping the young lady in a sex toys shop in Abuja, has gone viral. Eliciting widespread anger, the video shows the senator calling for his police orderlies to arrest the shopkeeper and take them away and the then proceeds to slap one of the women repeatedly.

It is believed that the altercation started when one of three females who accompanied the senator to the shop threw up and the shopkeeper asked her why she did not go outside to vomit. Incensed that they had the audacity to confront him, the senator was further enraged at the fact that one of the shopkeepers was on the phone when he was talking to her.

Following the outrage generated by the video, the police have been under severe pressure and early this morning, Mr Adamu ordered the arrest of the police orderly who was present at the scene and refused to act professionally. As pressure mounted, he has now called for the arrest of the senator himself, as he was the one who perpetuated the assault.

Investigations are currently ongoing at the Federal Capital Territory Police Command into the attack on. Close Circuit Television footage of the incident has been shared on the social media, embarrassing the police authorities.

Police bosses says they are doing everything within their powers to restore dignity to the force, following the conduct of the police orderly attached to the senator, who witnessed the incident.  Senator Abbo does not deny the crime but claimed that the incident happened before he got elected as a lawmaker.
