WhatsApp launches app for iPad after 16 years
After much anticipation, Meta has officially launched a WhatsApp app for the Apple iPad, representing a significant advancement for users of the globe's leading messaging service. The app can now be downloaded from the App Store.
Originally launched in 2009, WhatsApp notably predates the iPad, which was unveiled by Apple in 2010. For over ten years, iPad users have had to depend on workarounds or scaled versions of the iPhone app to use the service, but this latest release offers an experience specifically designed for tablet usage.
The version for iPad takes advantage of the larger screen and multitasking features inherent to the device. Options like Split View and Slide Over enable users to chat while also engaging with other applications. It is also compatible with accessories like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, further improving productivity and user experience.
The app supports full functionality for video and audio calls with up to 32 participants and allows use of both the front and rear cameras. Chat synchronization across devices ensures that users can transition between their iPhone and iPad smoothly, without missing any messages.
While the arrival of WhatsApp on iPad has been highly anticipated, attention now shifts to another major platform by Meta. There is still no dedicated Instagram app for iPad, but recent reports indicate that it may finally be in the works after 15 years of requests from users.
