Trump calls Musk ‘CRAZY’ amid feud over tax legislation

United States President Donald Trump labeled Tesla CEO Elon Musk as “CRAZY” on Thursday and threatened to revoke his companies’ government contracts amidst a dispute over a significant tax bill.

“Go ahead, make my day,” Musk quickly replied.

In addition to being the head of electric vehicle maker Tesla, Elon Musk also oversees SpaceX, xAI, The Boring Company, Neuralink, and the social media platform X.

Tesla’s stock, which was already declining, dropped further following Trump’s statements.

The intense clash between the world’s wealthiest individual and the U.S. president occurs just days after they exchanged compliments at an Oval Office event honoring Musk’s role leading the Department of Government Efficiency.

On Thursday afternoon, Trump expressed on Truth Social that Musk was “wearing thin” by the conclusion of his time as a “special government employee.”

Trump claimed, “I asked him to leave.”

The critical comment came after Musk denounced the president during an escalating conflict sparked by the billionaire’s vocal disapproval of Trump’s substantial budget bill.

Earlier on Thursday in the Oval Office, Trump stated that Musk was “upset” about the bill reducing electric vehicle tax credits.

“I removed his EV Mandate that compelled everyone to purchase Electric Cars that no one else wanted (which he knew I was going to do for months!), and he just went CRAZY!” Trump wrote in the social media post.

Musk has been vocally opposing the bill, contending that it will add trillions to the national deficit. He is actively encouraging Senate Republicans to “kill the bill,” which contains a significant portion of Trump’s domestic agenda.

In a follow-up post on Truth Social, the president remarked, “The simplest way to save billions of dollars in our budget is to cut Elon’s government subsidies and contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
