PWDs feeling weight of economic hardship, APC chieftain laments

Tolu Bankole, a member of the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee, expressed concern on Monday about the well-being of Persons with Disabilities, claiming that they have been hit the hardest by the country's current economic hardship.

The APC leader expressed his concerns in a statement issued in Abuja titled '64th Independence Anniversary: Let Us Make Nigeria A Truly Inclusive Society.'

Bankole urged Nigerians to remember the plight of many physically challenged and vulnerable people who are struggling with economic uncertainty and rising living costs.

However, the APC national leader in charge of PWDs expressed optimism that, despite the temporary discomfort, President Bola Tinubu's economic reforms are necessary to stabilise the economy.

He stated, "We cannot ignore the current economic challenges confronting our country. Many Nigerians are facing inflation, rising living costs, and economic uncertainty. These are difficult times, and people with disabilities bear the brunt of the hardship. Despite these temporary discomforts, we must remain optimistic.

"The ongoing reforms, while difficult, are critical steps towards stabilising the economy and laying the groundwork for a prosperous future. I urge every Nigerian to remain hopeful and believe in our country's resilience. With determination and unity, we will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger, with an economy that benefits everyone.

"On this special occasion, I must express our heartfelt gratitude to the APC-led government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for prioritising inclusive governance. Our collective future is dependent on policies that ensure the full participation of people with disabilities in the economy, politics, education, and healthcare sectors. We must create a nation in which no Nigerian is left behind, regardless of physical or mental ability."
