Nigerians will see major improvement in power supply – Minister

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is actively addressing the long-standing structural challenges that have plagued Nigeria's power sector for many years.

During comments made on Friday, he noted that the recent enhancements in electricity supply are merely the initial steps, highlighting that much greater advancements will unfold in the coming years.

Adelabu expressed assurance that significant improvements in the power sector are on the horizon.

He emphasized the objective of providing dependable electricity to every household, business, institution, and industry across Nigeria.

He remarked, “I want to emphasize that the greatest room for growth is the opportunity for enhancement. Rome wasn’t built overnight. To construct a stable structure, there must be a strong and trustworthy foundation. The power sector has faced critical foundational structural problems, which this administration has begun to address.

“The slight improvements you’ve observed are just the surface of what’s to come. You will soon experience substantial enhancements in power supply.”

Adelabu articulated that President Tinubu has made a strong commitment to ensure electricity is accessible throughout the nation and remains steadfast in that promise.

He pointed out that the President reaffirmed this pledge on Thursday during the inauguration of a power plant located in Port Harcourt.

“President Tinubu has promised that his primary goal is to electrify every Nigerian household, business, institution, and industry. I assure you that we are not slowing down. What you’ve seen is just the beginning, just one and a half years into this.”

“I began this role in September 2023. As we approach the end of May, you’ve already witnessed some progress. I guarantee that within the next year, you will see tremendous improvements that will enhance our industries, revive our small and cottage businesses, and restore joy to homes as they are illuminated and free from darkness,” he stated.

Adelabu also disclosed that residents of Oyo State will soon benefit from enhanced services in the power sector, as the federal government has recently concessioned the Ikere Gorge Dam to enhance electricity supply in the area.

“In Oyo State, we have vast potential and have accomplished quite a bit. We just observed the concessioning of the Ikere Gorge hydro power plant, which has been in the works since 1979. It had been lying idle. We took it on, stating that we must restore electricity to Oke Ogun and Oyo State. We have been able to realize that goal.

“You have seen numerous substations approved for Oyo State under President Tinubu’s administration. They say charity begins at home, and Oyo State must experience enhanced light and power supply.

“However, I urge our people to place their trust in us, to exercise patience, and to maintain their faith; Nigeria and Oyo State will not remain unchanged. As was said, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will illuminate the entirety of Nigeria, and Oyo State will experience this transformation as well.”
