Flood: China donates 1,000 family kits to Nigerian Red Cross
The Red Cross Society of China has provided 1,000 family kits to the Nigerian Red Cross Society to assist communities impacted by recent flooding in Nigeria.The donation ceremony was held at the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s National Headquarters in Abuja, symbolizing a notable humanitarian partnership between the two nations.
Zhou Hongyou, the Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, remarked that the donation exemplifies China’s support for Nigeria during these difficult times caused by severe flooding.
“Recent flooding has led to heartbreaking loss of life and damage to property in Nigeria. We offer our condolences to the families and communities affected by this catastrophe,” Hongyou stated, highlighting China’s dedication to humanitarian collaboration and development centered around people.
The purpose of the donation is to aid flood victims in Niger State and other severely impacted regions. Dr. Abubakar Kende, Secretary-General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, praised China for its generous assistance, assuring that the relief supplies would be delivered to those in greatest need.
“We appreciate China and its Red Cross Society for their continued support,” Kende said, inviting Chinese officials to visit flood-affected areas in Makwa, Niger State, to evaluate the situation.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society plays a vital role in supporting government efforts to respond to disasters.
This contribution arrives at a period when Nigeria is facing extensive flooding, which has impacted over 1.2 million individuals and resulted in more than 300 fatalities across 31 states.
