The senator for Cross River South in Cross River State, Asuquo Ekpenyong, has outlined his accomplishments during his two-year tenure in the Senate.

In a statement released on Sunday, he noted that significant changes have occurred across Cross River South in areas such as infrastructure, educational investments, and healthcare.

The lawmaker stated that he installed over 6,870 streetlights, enhancing safety and reviving nighttime commerce in the region.

He also mentioned that 11 new roads have been built and eight roads have been reconstructed, connecting communities and markets, which has improved transportation and stimulated local economies throughout the district.

He highlighted projects like Ikot Nkebre Layout, Adiabo Road off Tinapa, and Clerk Alley Street as initiatives that have enhanced access and revitalized entire neighborhoods.

Regarding health infrastructure, Ekpeyong expressed, “With 17 medical outreach programs, 4,422 residents are now receiving essential healthcare services, many for the first time.”

Furthermore, he indicated that 1,700 students have been provided with better educational opportunities through the Domestic Education Support Initiative, with 31 of them studying abroad on foreign scholarships.

A trader in Calabar South, Mrs. Nkese Etim, shared her thoughts on these developments, saying, “In the past, we felt neglected, but now we can see and feel the changes. Our children are attending better schools, our roads are accessible, and opportunities are available for everyone.”

The statement noted that the senator has helped 28 constituents secure employment in the Federal Public Service, and 12 others hold positions within the National Assembly.

Reflecting on his time in office, Ekpeyong remarked, “My main aim in the Senate is to accelerate the development of our land and our people — nothing more.”

“Our mission is to serve, to develop, and to ensure that no community is overlooked.”
