APC Advises Wike Against Employing Ministerial Role for 2027 Presidential Aspirations
The North Central Forum of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has issued a caution to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, urging him not to utilize his current ministerial role to advance his presidential aspirations in 2027.
The Chairman of the Forum, Saleh Zazzaga, conveyed this message during a weekend gathering held in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. The meeting was convened urgently to review the recent election tribunal verdict in the state.
Zazzaga asserted that the former Governor of Rivers State, Wike, continues to provide support to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in various endeavors and especially in post-election legal proceedings. He emphasized the need for Wike to declare his true political allegiance, warning that if his actions contradict the interests of the APC, they would not hesitate to take various measures against him, including legal action.
Zazzaga stated, "We have received reports indicating that certain appointive officeholders like Wike are engaged in dual political roles, being part of the APC by appointment while maintaining membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). We've learned that he is actively supporting the PDP, particularly in post-election legal cases."
He stressed the importance of Wike, in his capacity as an appointee of the APC, a lawyer, and a renowned figure in political-legal battles, to actively support and strategize for APC candidates in court proceedings, particularly in the North-Central Region encompassing the FCT.
Zazzaga also advised Wike to exercise caution in matters related to FCT demolitions, land revocations, and administrative policies, as any adverse consequences would primarily affect the North Central region, which is already grappling with numerous challenges, including security.
Furthermore, the APC leader called on all party leaders, supporters, and members to rally behind candidates pursuing legal actions in post-election matters and encouraged all Nigerians to support key figures within the party, such as Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, ministers, and appointees to ensure the effective delivery of democracy's benefits to the nation.
