Buhari pays courtesy visit to UN General Assembly president Professor Tijani Bande

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed president of the United Nations General Assembly Professor Tijani Bande where he warned him that bears a huge responsibility and carries a heavy weight on his shoulders.

 

Currently in New York for the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Buhari is due to address delegates latter this month. It will be the first session presided over by Professor Bande, Nigeria’s permanent representative to the UN who was recently elected as the chair of the assembly.

 

President Buhari said: “I sincerely congratulate you. Your election was well received by the whole world. It was a unanimous support, and the global community received you well. That support puts a heavy weight on you, and I wish you well.”

 

Professor Bande added: “Your nominating me for this position is the greatest honour I can have. The support from Africa and the world has been outstanding so far.”
