PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of at least one oxygen tents in each of the 36 states of the federation as part of the Nigerian government’s battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
Like most countries, Nigeria is looking to mass vaccinate its population this year and as part of the programme, the government intends opening oxygen tents too. Already, President Buhari has approved the rehabilitation of five oxygen tents across tertiary health institutions in Nigeria.
Boss Mustapha, the chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19, said: “Approval has been given to rehabilitate five oxygen plants across various tertiary health institutions in Abuja. The president has also approved that at least one oxygen plant should be established in each state of the federation immediately.
“The national coordinator will elaborate on this. What is currently confronting us is a critical phase of infections globally.”
He added that the PTF us constantly reviewing its strategy to emerging situations, especially in risk communication, vaccine hesitancy, fake news/disinformation. Nigeria is currently in discussions with several pharmaceutical giants about supplying it with the coronavirus vaccine.
